In the event that the electoral oversight agency, the Electoral Commission (EC), is unable to carry out the process, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) asserts that it will still be prepared to hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, stated in a statement to journalists on Friday that although the EC is supposed to oversee the elections, the party will still conduct the voting if it violates the contract.

Although we have a contract with the EC, we reserve the right to conduct our primaries via internal mechanisms if they are not overseen. Our primaries must be under their supervision. In order to deliver all materials, we spoke with the EC this morning. In case the supplies run into any problems, we even promised to fly them. For our elections, we will bear complete responsibility. It’s inevitable that the elections will start, he said.

Due to a plea for an injunction made by Dr. Kwabena Duffour, one of the flagbearer candidates, the EC had previously rejected to oversee the election. The lawsuit, however, was later dropped, and the case was dismissed.
